Here is some free software for Windows that I enjoy:

Paint.net - photo editing
CDBurnerXP - burn CD’s and DVD’s
WinDirStat - little app that shows you the size of your folders (very useful if you’re trying to clean out your hard drive)
Crimson Editor - editor for looking at software source code, HTML, XML, etc.
EverNote - note program where you can capture notes and tag them
FreeMind - mind-mapping application (a great brainstorming application)
