I recently listened to this great Creator Science podcast interview of author Daniel Pink about how to write like a NY Times bestselling author. One great point Dan makes in the interview is being intentional with which parts of your life you should be maximizing/optimizing, and which parts you should satisfy and move on.
He referenced this 2002 paper by Barry Schwartz, Maximizing Versus Satisficing: Happiness of a Matter of Choice. Dan comments that “Maximizers achieve more, but they’re miserable”, and you should be intentional on maximizing in a few aspects of your life where it’s incredibly important, and satify (get to good enough and move on quickly) where it makes sense.
Don’t maximize on too many aspects of your life, or you won’t be excellent at anything.
